The Department for Education (DfE) has awarded places to 42 contractors across its new £15.4bn Construction Framework 2025, set to deliver schools and colleges across England.
The eight-year programme will operate under the Procurement Act 2023 as a closed framework split across 10 regional and two high-value lots.
Projects will range from £4.4m to £12m in the low-value band, to above £12m in the high-value band.
Schemes are expected to include secondary schools, academies, further education colleges and other educational facilities.
Major contractors including Kier, Morgan Sindall, Wates, Willmott Dixon, Galliford Try, Bowmer & Kirkland and Tilbury Douglas secured places on both high-value lots, covering the north and south of England.
Other firms such as Caddick Construction, McAvoy Modular Offsite and Reds10 featured heavily across low-value regional lots.
The framework will be open to local authorities and other public bodies beyond the DfE. It includes an initial six-year term with the option of two one-year extensions.
The DfE expects all call-offs to be managed under its supervision.
A total of 222 bids were assessed across the 10 lots, with 100 contract awards confirmed.
Unsuccessful bidders included Bouygues UK, JJ Rhatigan and Portakabin.
The framework replaces the DfE’s previous Construction Framework 2021 and is expected to play a key role in delivering net-zero carbon and modern methods of construction (MMC) objectives.
Projects will include traditional design-and-build schemes as well as offsite manufacturing.
