Kier has secured a £139m contract from Severn Trent to upgrade the Wanlip Sewage Treatment Works in Leicestershire.
The project, due to start in summer 2025 and complete in 2028, will expand the facility’s capacity to serve 750,000 residents.
It will increase dry weather flow capacity by 24 per cent and full flow to treatment by around 20 per cent, supporting tighter environmental standards and boosting site resilience.
Wanlip is Severn Trent’s third-largest wastewater treatment facility.
The contract is part of Severn Trent’s Green Recovery programme and builds on a more than 20-year relationship between the water company and Kier.
The upgrade was developed following an early contractor involvement phase during which enabling works and detailed design were completed.
The project will be delivered in collaboration with specialist delivery partners, and will include co-location of teams in a purpose-built welfare village.
Kier’s win follows recent awards under the Asset Management Plan 8 (AMP8) cycle with other UK water clients including Yorkshire Water, Wessex Water, United Utilities, Southern Water and Anglian Water.
