The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) in the Ministry of Defence has issued an early procurement notice for a major redevelopment project at HMS Collingwood in Hampshire, with works expected to cost up to £170m including VAT.

Under the project, a main works contractor will be appointed to replace heating and hot water systems across the Royal Navy training base and refurbish up to 1,300 bed spaces, the DIO said in its notice today (22 May).

The contract is expected to run for five years from October 2029.

The DIO said it plans to publish a full tender notice in July that year, but it has not yet confirmed the contract type.

The job will be procured under the new Procurement Act 2023 with an estimated value of £141.7m excluding VAT.

HMS Collingwood, located near Fareham, is one of the Royal Navy’s largest shore-based training establishments. It hosts warfare and weapon engineering training for RN ratings, as well as the Defence Diving School for RN and British Army personnel.

The proposed improvements at the base form part of the Ministry of Defence’s wider investment in modernising defence infrastructure to improve living standards and energy efficiency at defence facilities across the UK.
