The Scottish Government is calling on industry to help shape the next stage of its nationwide cladding remediation programme at two supplier engagement events this month.

Scheduled for 24 July at Victoria Quay in Edinburgh, the events will support upcoming procurement related to the Housing (Cladding Remediation) (Scotland) Act 2024.

This Act gives ministers powers to assess and remediate buildings where cladding poses a risk to human life.

The remediation process is being guided by Single Building Assessments (SBAs), which evaluate internal and external elements to determine if a building presents an intolerable risk and then sets out required remedial actions.

The first event, taking place at 10am, will focus on suppliers of project management, façade-focused building contractors, and quantity surveying services.

A second session, starting at 1:30pm, will target fire engineers, fire alarm specialists, and Waking Watch providers.

The events will outline the scope of the work, minimum qualifications, and expected procurement timelines.

The government also aims to better understand market capacity and supply chain integration.

Interested parties must register their attendance by emailing karen.pow@gov.scot by noon on 22 July.

A formal contract notice is expected to be published by 1 October.

The Act 2024, which came into force on 6 January , provides Scottish ministers with powers to assess and remediate buildings where cladding poses a risk to human life.

The programme targets flatted residential buildings in Scotland which:

  • Are 11 metres or more in height
  • Were constructed or refurbished between 1 June 1992 and 1 June 2022
  • Have an external wall cladding system

Developers are expected to fund and carry out works on buildings they constructed, while the government steps in for buildings without an active developer.
