If you do the maths for a Dry Lining apprenticeship, the Minimum Wage increase adds (when you factor in taxes) over £1,000. The saving in training is in theory £700, but the truth is that most people don’t have to pay this as we can normally find top-up through vouchers. So at best it is only £200 more for an apprentice, but in reality it is an extra grand on the apprentice butchers bill that will further discourage employers. Complete own goal.
