Costain has secured a five-year, £75m extension to its contract with EDF to continue providing project controls services across eight UK nuclear power stations.
The contract, which extends an existing framework to 2030, will support EDF in operating its Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor fleet, and in preparing for the defueling and decommissioning of sites as they transition out of power generation.
Costain has delivered project controls under EDF’s Project Controls Resources Framework since 2017. The agreement was previously extended in 2021 and 2023.
More than 170 Costain staff are currently deployed on over 400 live projects under the framework, including 50 junior and trainee professionals. Services include programme management, resource planning and cost-efficiency support.
The client is EDF. The procurement was made through a framework route. No architect has been named.
The award adds to Costain’s recent success in the civil nuclear sector, including decommissioning work at Trawsfynydd, infrastructure upgrades at Sellafield, and roles on the Sizewell C and Urenco projects.
Costain defence and nuclear energy sector director Bob Anstey said the extension reflected the firm’s position in the civil nuclear market and its track record of delivery since 2017.
EDF head of nuclear decommissioning PMO Rohan Mulvaney said the contract would support “continued project control services for safe operations and decommissioning activities” at its sites.
