VolkerFitzpatrick has won an £83m logistics and office development in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, for client Tritax Big Box Developments.
The project at Symmetry Park will deliver more than 76,800 square metres of industrial and Grade A office space across five units, with the largest measuring nearly 26,700 square metres.
British bakery Warburtons has signed up as the scheme’s first occupier.
The contractor is aiming for BREEAM Outstanding and EPC A+ ratings across the development. Construction began earlier this year.
The scope of works includes service yards, car parking, drainage, landscaping and incoming services. VolkerFitzpatrick has committed to using local supply chains and providing placements and apprenticeships as part of its social value commitments. These efforts have included volunteering and fundraising initiatives in partnership with local charities.
VolkerFitzpatrick building division managing director Stuart Deverill said the scheme would “showcase our expertise in delivering sustainable, large-scale industrial developments”. He added that targeting BREEAM Outstanding was part of the firm’s commitment to environmental standards.
Tritax Big Box development director Tom Leeming said VolkerFitzpatrick’s record with complex industrial schemes made it “the ideal partner” for the site.
