Willmott Dixon has secured a £30.5m contract to deliver a new custody suite for Derbyshire Constabulary in Chesterfield.
The 36-cell facility will be built on Dunston Road and span 4,732 square metres. It will include support accommodation, ground improvements, drainage, external works and car parking.
Designed by Corstorphine & Wright Ltd, the three-storey building will feature photovoltaic panels. Construction is due to begin in September 2025 and complete by June 2027. The scheme has been procured via the SCAPE Construction framework.
Assistant chief officer Andrew Price said the new suite represented a long-term investment in operational capabilities, providing officers with a “fit for purpose” working environment.
Willmott Dixon project director Michelle Cotterill said the company’s specialist teams were experienced in building secure facilities and understood the operational and wellbeing needs of police staff.
The job adds to Willmott Dixon’s portfolio of blue light work, which includes the £55m redevelopment of Hertfordshire Constabulary’s headquarters in Welwyn Garden City and the £18m Pendle Police Station in Lancashire, both awarded earlier this year.
Its recent emergency services work includes projects for West Midlands, Newcastle, South Yorkshire and South Wales Police, and expansion works at HMPs Nottingham, Swaleside and Lindholme.
The contractor has also delivered a forensics centre for Thames Valley Police and new facilities for fire services in West Sussex, Dorset and Humberside.
