Speller Metcalfe has appointed Mark Castle as its first non-executive chair, with the industry veteran due to join the board in January 2026.
The firm said the move marks a significant step in its 30th anniversary year and forms part of a long-term strategy to support sustainable growth.
Castle brings more than four decades of construction experience, including senior roles at Wates and Mace, where he served as chief operating officer and then non-executive director.
During his tenure, Mace’s construction turnover rose from £100m to £1.7bn. He has also chaired Build UK and currently holds board positions at Eleco, Triangle Fire Group, and Taylor Wimpey.
Managing director James Speller said Castle’s appointment would help refine strategy and reinforce a “forward-thinking culture”.
Fellow MD Adrian Speller added that introducing an independent chair would bolster governance while retaining the family-owned character of the business.
The announcement follows a year in which the contractor posted £3.4m pre-tax profit on £162.4m turnover.
Founded by Steve Speller and Andy Metcalfe, the firm remains privately owned and is now run by second-generation leaders James and Adrian Speller.
Castle said he looked forward to supporting the company through its next phase of growth.
