Bouygues wins Exeter student accommodation job

Bouygues UK has secured the main construction contract for the University of Exeter’s West Park student accommodation scheme, after the project reached financial close.

The scheme will deliver six new accommodation blocks and refurbish an existing block at the university’s Streatham campus, creating space for 1,849 students.

Bouygues UK was appointed by infrastructure provider UPP as the lead contractor,  The client is the University of Exeter.

The design is being led by Willmore Iles Architects and Passivhaus specialist Architype.

UPP is financing the project.

Construction is due to complete over a three-year period, Bouygues UK said in a statement this morning (2 September).

Site preparation work has already begun, said data intelligence firm Glenigan, which has named Glamorgan-based mechanical and electrical specialist F P Hurley & Sons Ltd as one of the subcontractors.

Phased occupancy of the new buildings will begin in September 2027 and full completion is expected in 2028, according to Bouygues UK.

The development will be built to Passivhaus standards for energy efficiency and will be accredited under the WELL Community Standard.

Bouygues UK said it would deliver the project using methods that support low energy use and prioritise occupant comfort.

Chair and chief executive Philippe Bernard said the firm was “committed to delivering exemplary projects that meet the highest standards of energy efficiency and resident wellbeing”.
