Multiplex\u2019s \u00a3400m contract to turn the former US Embassy building in Mayfair into a luxury hotel propelled it to the top of the contracts league in February, according to data compiled by construction intelligence provider Glenigan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Developer Qatari Diar has picked the contractor<\/a> to turn the Grade II-listed building at 30 Grosvenor Square into a 139-room hotel with retail space and a new public realm (pictured). The hotel, which will be called The Chancery Rosewood, will include a grand ballroom with a 750-person capacity. The US moved its embassy south of the river to Nine Elms in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The hotel win puts Multiplex far ahead of Sisk, which managed to secure second spot on the back of a \u00a3260m win on the Ludgate Hill scheme<\/a> in Birmingham. The contractor will deliver a 39-storey build-to-rent residential tower for Moda Living in the city.<\/p>\n

Graham landed third in the month, equaling its highest ever placing, which it last achieved in July 2018. A \u00a3124m contract to upgrade junction 8 of the M25<\/a> was its largest job in the month.<\/p>\n

Kier matched its fourth-place position from January thanks to 19 jobs worth a total of \u00a3203.1m. An \u00a387m contract to build a new surgical hospital in Somerset<\/a> and the \u00a352m Mulberry Academy secondary school in east London were the picks of its wins in February.<\/p>\n

Winvic landed in fifth after its appointment to a \u00a398m warehouse project at Hoyland Common near Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Vinci landed a \u00a3176m contract to build a natural gas storage tank<\/a> in Rochester, Kent, for National Grid, helping it to sixth position.<\/p>\n

The total value of wins for the top 50 in February stood at \u00a33.74bn. This was up more than \u00a31bn on the awards recorded in January and was the highest monthly total since December 2019.<\/p>\n

On the rolling 12-month league table, Morgan Sindall returned to the top, swapping places with Kier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

February also delivered the first month-on-month increase in the value of wins for the top-placed firm in six months.<\/p>\n
