Morgan Sindall has been propelled to the summit of the contractors\u2019 league table for March by a \u00a375m deal to develop a manufacturing hub in southern England.<\/p>\n

The 60,000 square foot facility, which is being developed at Kent Science Hub in Sittingbourne, will support cannabis-based medicines developed by Irish pharmaceutical giant Jazz Pharmaceuticals.<\/p>\n

Morgan Sindall shored up its position atop the league with a \u00a367m student-housing development project in Oxford, according to data gathered by construction intelligence provider Glenigan<\/a>. Clive Booth Student Village is being redeveloped for Oxford Brookes University and will add up to 600 places to the accommodation site.<\/p>\n

In total, Morgan Sindall signed on the dotted line 36 times in March, for work worth a total of \u00a3299.7m. The last time more contracts were signed by the number-one performer in the league was in August, when Morgan Sindall last took the gold medal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Skanska moved back into the limelight in second place \u2013 its best performance since it topped the league a year ago, in March 2021. Its standing owed everything\u00a0to a \u00a3235m office and retail scheme in London<\/a> \u2013 the second time in a row that one contract has been enough to push a company into second place.<\/p>\n

The \u201cultra-sustainable\u201d scheme, measuring 470,000 square feet across 16 storeys, is being developed for Welput, a specialist central London office fund managed by investor BentallGreenOak. Known as 105 Victoria Street, it is being developed using modern methods of construction with a target of achieving BREEAM outstanding certification.<\/p>\n

In fourth place is Galliford Try, on the back of a \u00a3100m golf resort it is developing near Dundee, according to Glenigan. <\/em>The development project will also include a new hotel, spa and lodges, as well as 160 homes. The local council gave the project the green light at the beginning of March, and the 180-hole course is set to open in 2024.<\/p>\n

Robertson, meanwhile, roared back into the top 10 with a \u00a3150m deal to develop phase one of the Atlantic Wharf Arena in Cardiff. The 15,000-capacity arena is set to bring more than \u00a3100m into the Welsh capital\u2019s economy once it opens to the public at the end of 2024. Robertson’s spot in the league comes after a five-month hiatus, stretching back to September.<\/p>\n

VolkerWessels also returned to the top 10 after a five-month break, thanks partly to a \u00a393.4m contract to strengthen the Tame Valley Viaduct in the West Midlands, according to Glenigan. The government announced late last year that the bridge, which carries 80,000 vehicles per day, had shown significant signs of wear and tear in recent years.<\/p>\n

Morgan Sindall\u2019s standing atop the monthly league boosted its already dominant position in the annual league. Now occupying the top spot for the eleventh month in a row, it has amassed 360 contracts worth \u00a32.72bn in total, and is sitting pretty with close to \u00a31bn separating it from its nearest competitor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

But the battle for second place continues, with Kier jumping above Royal Bam, as the Dutch-owned company slipped to sixth. Kier signed off on 199 contracts in the past year, worth \u00a31.75bn.<\/p>\n

ISG jumped to third with a total contract value of \u00a31.57bn. It is the first time that Morgan Sindall, Kier and Royal Bam did not collectively make up the top three in more than a year. Laing O\u2019Rourke and Wates moved up a place each, into fourth and fifth respectively.<\/p>\n
