Leading figures from the UK construction industry will gather at CN’s<\/em> Transforming Construction<\/a> conference next month to discuss the implications of new building safety regulations on the sector.<\/p>\n

In one of the event’s headline sessions, Mace chief executive for construction Gareth Lewis will discuss specific features of the Building Safety Act that will act as key drivers for change.<\/p>\n

Lewis will be joined by the Construction Product Association\u2019s Peter Caplehorn, and two other panelists on 30 November, as they discuss how contractors are adapting to the new rules.<\/p>\n

The Building Safety Act was introduced in June<\/a> this year and represented the largest shake-up in building rules in the last 40 years.<\/p>\n

Transforming Construction<\/a>, formerly the CN Summit, will help to educate contractors on how they can navigate changes to the law. It will be the tenth iteration of the event, which is being held at 155 Bishopsgate in London this year.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the day, delegates can attend a session covering the significant changes that will arise from secondary legislation following the new Act.<\/p>\n

This includes changes to Building Regulation compliance that affect both contractors and designers. The session will provide insight into the \u2018Golden Thread’<\/a> of information required both during construction and during occupation of higher-risk buildings.<\/p>\n

The Golden Thread, via Regulation 38, ensures the wider adoption of technology in the construction process to reduce the risk of fire and other structural dangers in buildings, ultimately creating greater safety in residential homes.<\/p>\n

Allan Wilen, economics director at data intelligence provider Glenigan<\/em>, will also speak at Transforming Construction<\/a> event \u2013 providing an outlook for UK construction activity, and looking at how it has been reshaped by the pandemic, as well as material and labour shortages.<\/p>\n

Wilen will also provide insight into the markets with the largest growth opportunities in the construction sector for 2022-24.<\/p>\n

The event, which is being held in person this year, aims to bring leading industry figures together \u2013 from public and private clients to main contractors and their supply chains. It is being co-located with the LGC Future Places<\/a>\u00a0event, giving contractors the chance to engage with place-shaping leaders.<\/p>\n

Those attending will also be able to hear Skanska\u2019s executive vice president Katie Dowding lead a session on construction productivity. Dowding will share a seven-step framework to better identify where productivity improvements can be made.<\/p>\n

She will be joined by Neil Pennell, Landsec\u2019s head of design innovations and property solutions, and Morrisroe Group\u2019s Brian Morrisroe to share information on practical interventions designed to boost productivity.<\/p>\n

On the day, delegates can expect a packed agenda, including more than 25 industry-leading speakers, 15 sessions, and more than three hours of networking.<\/p>\n
