The spend includes that by HM Courts &amp; Tribunals Service and HM Prison and Probation Service, as well as the MoJ directly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over the year, the department paid ISG Construction some \u00a394.6m, which was \u00a311m more than it spent with Lendlease Construction \u2013 the MoJ\u2019s biggest<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/government\/ministry-of-justice-contractor-spend-revealed-25-08-2022\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">contractor during the previous financial year<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In March, ISG<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/contractors\/isg\/isg-scoops-61m-birmingham-prison-refurb-17-03-2023\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">landed a \u00a361m upgrade scheme at HMP Birmingham<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to refurbish 300 prison cells at the category B facility. It won a place on the department\u2019s<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/buildings\/kier-morgan-sindall-lendlease-among-winners-on-2-5bn-moj-framework-14-03-2023\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a32.5bn constructor-services framework<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during the same month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alongside Wates, Kier and Laing O\u2019Rourke, ISG is also a member of a<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/buildings\/revealed-four-tier-ones-to-work-together-on-1bn-new-prisons-deal-09-07-2021\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a31bn prison alliancing arrangement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ISG declined to comment on its place in the ranking. In a statement after its appointment to the Birmingham prison job, its sector director for justice, Alistair McNeil, said: \u201cOur longstanding partnership with the MoJ is built on trust, knowledge and aligned goals, and has driven a wide range of rehabilitation and upskilling initiatives that mutually benefit the vision and values of both our organisations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIn many areas, the MoJ is at the vanguard of some of the most progressive and innovative approaches to estate-optimisation strategies, and it\u2019s through enlightened clients that our entire industry directly benefits and advances.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The department has pushed the use of modular construction methods on its projects in recent years \u2013 which is reflected in its increased spending in this area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Modular specialists Algeco UK, which received \u00a321.8m during the year from the department, and<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/tech\/offsite-mmc\/modular-firms-revenue-doubles-over-three-years-23-06-2023\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Reds10<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which received \u00a310.7m, are placed seventh and eighth in the table respectively. Algeco secured a<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/contractors\/isg\/isg-scoops-61m-birmingham-prison-refurb-17-03-2023\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">contract to supply units to HMP Norwich in March<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kier Construction, which<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/government\/ministry-of-justice-contractor-spend-revealed-25-08-2022\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was the top construction supplier to the MoJ in 2020\/21<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as well as in<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/contractors\/ministry-of-justice-contractor-spend-table-revealed-15-02-2021\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">both the 2019 and 2020 calendar years<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, only made it to 12th place on the 2022\/23 table. The contractor earned just \u00a3673,202, despite being part of the \u00a31bn alliance during the period. Laing O\u2019Rourke, also in the alliance, was not listed among the top suppliers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CN <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">contacted Kier for comment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/buildings\/six-courts-suspected-of-containing-collapse-risk-material-05-05-2023\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In May<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the government revealed that the MoJ might need to spend more on remediating buildings after surveys found that reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete may be present in six court buildings.
