{"id":482196,"date":"2023-07-05T16:20:52","date_gmt":"2023-07-05T15:20:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/?p=482196"},"modified":"2023-07-05T16:20:52","modified_gmt":"2023-07-05T15:20:52","slug":"skanska-jv-lands-219m-airbase-job","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/contractors\/skanska\/skanska-jv-lands-219m-airbase-job-05-07-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Skanska JV lands \u00a3219m airbase job"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A joint venture (JV) between Skanska and Black &amp; Veatch has landed a \u00a3219m design-and-build contract from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) for a new building at RAF Molesworth in Cambridgeshire.<\/p>\n<p>The contract for the two-storey facility (pictured) was awarded by the MoD&#8217;s Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) on behalf of the US Air Force (USAF).<\/p>\n<p>The building, together with supporting infrastructure and a warehouse, is expected be completed in 2028.<\/p>\n<p>Enabling works are set to start in spring 2024, with full construction beginning later that year. Design work will begin immediately.<\/p>\n<p>Skanska said its part of the contract is worth \u00a3153m. Its executive vice president Adam McDonald said: \u201cWe\u2019re very excited to be working with DIO to deliver this project. We have long-standing experience of delivering complex projects in the defence sector, which means we can hit the ground running when we move on to this site.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DIO chief operating officer David Brewer said: \u201cThis contract award marks the latest stage of an ongoing and important relationship between DIO and our Nato partners and allies, the USA. We look forward to working hard with our suppliers to deliver an impressive facility for the US Air Force.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brigadier General Kale, commander of the US Air Force\u2019s Civil Engineer Center, said the project \u201cmarks yet another step forward in the enduring partnership between the United States and its Nato ally and partner, the United Kingdom\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, the Skanska JV with Costain and Strabag that is working on HS2 was recently awarded an additional \u00a3305m relating to changes to the scope of works.<\/p>\n<p>Black &amp; Veatch\u2019s other recent contract wins include overseeing delivery of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/buildings\/specialist-lands-key-role-on-480m-efw-plant-27-01-2023\/\">new \u00a3480m energy-from-waste plant near Northwich in Cheshire<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>RAF Molesworth is a non-flying facility under the control of the USAF.
