Galliford Try topped the June contractor\u2019s league table for the first time in more than four years, thanks to a road improvement scheme in Gloucestershire.<\/p>\n

The firm landed the M5 Junction 10 scheme<\/a>, which involves building two new slip roads, as well as a new link road connecting the A4019 to the B4634 in west Cheltenham and widening of the A4019 Tewkesbury Road, for Gloucestershire County Council.<\/p>\n

Construction intelligence provider Glenigan credits the contract as being worth \u00a3254m to the contractor. It was one of 10 it landed during the month, giving it a total of \u00a3311m of jobs.<\/p>\n

Galliford Try last topped the league table in April 2019<\/a>, five months before it agreed the sale<\/a> of its housebuilding and partnerships businesses to Bovis Homes.<\/p>\n

Multiplex took the second biggest haul in June thanks to two large contracts: the \u00a3220m phase 2 at the BBC\u2019s former television centre in west London<\/a>, and the \u00a352.5m refurbishment of the Grade I listed Minerva House office building in Southwark, south London.<\/p>\n

The former broadcast studios will be turned into a residential site, with Multiplex signed on to deliver 345 luxury apartments across two blocks.<\/p>\n

Morgan Sindall finished third in the table, winning a total of 35 different contracts with a combined value of \u00a3213m.<\/p>\n

Greek firm Mytilineos was a new entrant in fifth place, due to its \u00a3120m contract win to deliver a gas-fired power station at VPI Immingham OCGT in Lincolnshire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Across the second quarter of 2023 a total of 505 contracts worth a combined \u00a37.5bn were awarded, according to Glenigan. This represented a drop of more than \u00a32.4bn from the same period in 2022 when 529 contracts were awarded with a total value of \u00a39.9bn.<\/p>\n

Last month<\/a> analysts at the intelligence provider predicted an 18 per cent dip in the value of new project across 2023, led by a collapse of private housing work in the wake of soaring mortgage rates and shrinking household budgets.<\/p>\n

Kier remained top of the rolling annual league table, generating \u00a32.57bn of work from 150 contracts. Morgan Sindall moved back into second place with \u00a32.04bn from 348 jobs, while Balfour Beatty rose to third on \u00a32.03bn, moving ahead of Wates which won \u00a31.77bn of work in the period.<\/p>\n

Galliford Try\u2019s strong month helped it move from ninth to seventh place in the annual list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
