Multiplex<\/a> has been appointed to build the City of London\u2019s newest skyscraper.<\/p>\n

Fifty Fenchurch Street<\/a>\u00a0will provide around 60,400 square metres of office space in the heart of the financial district.<\/p>\n

Multiplex did not divulge the value of the job but data provider Glenigan estimates it is worth \u00a3400m.<\/p>\n

The new building will rise to 36 storeys, two fewer than its Fenchurch Street neighbour the Walkie Talkie.<\/p>\n

The City of London Corporation\u2019s planning committee unanimously approved the plans in May 2020.<\/p>\n

Multiplex was appointed by investment firm AXA IM Alts. The two firms previously worked together on 22 Bishopsgate, a 62-storey City of London building completed in 2020.<\/p>\n

Construction of 50 Fenchurch Street is expected to be completed in 2028. Keltbray finished enabling works in May and will start piling this month.<\/p>\n

The contract win adds to Multiplex\u2019s portfolio of major London projects. The firm is currently building One Leadenhall<\/a>, another 36-storey building in central London.<\/p>\n

Multiplex UK managing director Callum Tuckett said: \u201cWe are extremely proud to have been appointed by AXA IM to deliver 50 Fenchurch Street.<\/p>\n

“We believe the development will set a new benchmark for future workplaces in London and beyond, and we look forward to working alongside the rest of the project team to bring this visionary development to life.\u201d<\/p>\n

The development will retain two nearby heritage sites, the medieval church tower of All Hallows Staining and Lambe\u2019s Chapel Crypt. It also includes a new underground livery hall for the Clothworkers\u2019 Company.<\/p>\n

Fifty Fenchurch Street will target BREEAM Outstanding and net-zero operation, with 70 species of plants throughout the landscaped gardens and 40 planted terraces.<\/p>\n

YardNine is the delivery partner on the 50 Fenchurch Street scheme, with Arup on board to lead engineering design.<\/p>\n

The building\u2019s designer Eric Parry Architects also designed One Undershaft<\/a>, which if approved will be the UK\u2019s joint-tallest building alongside the Shard.<\/p>\n
