The latter company collapsed just one week before he was due to start.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"229\" data-end=\"658\">He took over a firm under pressure since 2018 when concern over its debt level and low working capital forced the firm into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/news\/contractors-news\/kier-investors-buy-38-of-new-shares-as-banks-count-cost-20-12-2018\/\">a costly \u00a3250m rights issue<\/a> to shore up the business.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"229\" data-end=\"658\">His tenure has seen the firm&#8217;s return to the FTSE 250 and the resumption of dividend payments.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"229\" data-end=\"658\">Kier&#8217;s net debt, which was over \u00a3310 million in 2020, was reduced to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/contractors\/kier\/kier-back-on-track-after-a-tough-five-years-25-09-2023\/\">net cash position of \u00a364.1 million by June 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"229\" data-end=\"658\">Under his leadership, the group built a record \u00a311bn order book and stabilised its financial position, the company said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"229\" data-end=\"658\">In a London Stock Exchange announcement in June, the \u00a33.9bn-turnover firm said that trading for the first four months of the year \u201cremains in line with expectations\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/contractors\/kier\/\">Kier<\/a>\u00a0said its order book stood at \u00a311bn by the end of April \u2013 up 2 per cent on the \u00a310.8bn it reported at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/financial\/resilience-pays-off-for-kier-with-3-9bn-revenue-12-09-2024\/\">end of its previous financial year to 30 June 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"229\" data-end=\"658\">He will remain employed during a 12-month notice period, with entitlements including a bonus for 2025 and a pro-rated award for 2026, subject to performance conditions.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"660\" data-end=\"932\">Chairman Matthew Lester credited Davies with transforming the business and embedding a culture of \u201csafety, delivery, discipline and performance excellence\u201d.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"660\" data-end=\"932\">Togwell, his successor, has been with Kier since 2008 and has played a central role in its transformation strategy.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"934\" data-end=\"1070\">His remuneration will be detailed in the company\u2019s 2025 annual report and will follow the approved directors\u2019 remuneration policy, the firm said.<\/p>\n<p>Davies is currently the fourth highest paid figure in construction, according to the latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/sections\/long-reads\/a-mixed-bag-the-highest-paid-executives-in-construction-28-10-2024\/\"><em>Construction News<\/em> survey of executive salaries<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1072\" data-end=\"1171\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Togwell&#8217;s appointment follows a competitive selection process involving internal and external candidates, the firm said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<p><em>Source:<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kier.co.uk\/media\/iodpuv4t\/chief-executive-succession.pdf\"> Kier statement<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kier Group has announced that its chief executive Andrew Davies will retire on 31 October 2025.
