Kier expects to generate \u201cgood growth” this year following a \u201cramp up\u201d of work in the water industry.<\/span><\/p>\n

The contractor \u2013 ranked<\/span> third in the latest edition of the CN100<\/span><\/a> \u2013 revealed in a trading update today (22 July) that revenue and profit will be in line with its expectations for the year to 30 June 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kier expects to see \u201cgood growth on the prior year [\u2026] reflecting strong operational execution\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Referring to the five-year regulatory period that sets performance targets and investment frameworks in the water sector, it said \u201cThe ramp up of Asset Management Period 8 [AMP 8] related activity\u201d in the second half of the year offset \u201cmore modest growth\u201d in its transportation business.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Kier said its volume of work steadied in the construction sector.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last year the firm<\/span> secured a place on Wessex Water\u2019s \u00a33.7bn framework<\/span><\/a> for AMP8, which runs from April 2025 to March 2030. It was also named on a \u00a33.1bn Southern Water AMP8 framework, and has a spot on Yorkshire Water\u2019s \u00a3850m non-infrastructure works framework for the same period.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kier\u2019s net cash position at the end of June was up more than a fifth on last year, rising from \u00a3167m to \u00a3204m.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chief executive Andrew Davies \u2013 who will<\/span> retire at the end of October<\/span><\/a> \u2013 said the firm was \u201cdelivering well against its long-term sustainable growth plan\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis performance, alongside the continued growth of our high-quality order book and recapitalisation of our property business, supports the recent upgrade to our long-term margin targets and underpins the creation of strong and sustainable value for shareholders,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

Davies will be succeeded by Stuart Togwell, currently Kier\u2019s executive director and group managing director of construction.<\/span><\/p>\n

The business also reported an order book worth about \u00a311bn at the end of June, compared with \u00a310.8bn the year before.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The forward-order tally \u201ccontinues to reflect the group\u2019s positive momentum\u201d, Kier said in its statement. So far, it has secured about 88 per cent of its targeted revenue total for the following year, to June 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n

The contractor also pointed to several substantial contracts secured over the course of the past year, including a \u00a3139m project to deliver the main works at Wanlip Sewage Treatment Works in Leicestershire and the \u00a341.8m the Mayfield Community Learning Campus build in Scotland.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kier also secured a pre-contract<\/span> services agreement for the first phase of a \u00a3700m project<\/span><\/a> for Warwick University in April.<\/span><\/p>\n

The update is the latest in a series of positive financial disclosures by the contractor, after it last month raised its<\/span> margin target to between 4 and 4.5 per cent<\/span><\/a> over the next three to five years, amid an increase in orders.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
