{"id":525743,"date":"2025-07-25T12:45:37","date_gmt":"2025-07-25T11:45:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/?p=525743"},"modified":"2025-07-25T12:47:01","modified_gmt":"2025-07-25T11:47:01","slug":"morgan-sindall-site-closed-after-worker-dies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/health-and-safety\/morgan-sindall-site-closed-after-worker-dies-25-07-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Morgan Sindall site closed after worker dies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Morgan Sindall construction site in Cambridge has been closed until further notice after a worker on a \u00a390m development suffered fatal injuries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An air ambulance was called to the Mill Yard site by Mill Road on Monday, but medics were unable to save the contractor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/contractors\/morgan-sindall\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Morgan Sindall<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is delivering a project to construct 70 flats and commercial buildings, said it is working with health and safety officials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSadly, a contractor working on our Mill Road project in Cambridge was fatally injured at the site the afternoon of Monday 21 July,\u201d a spokesman said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOur thoughts and condolences are first and foremost with the family and friends.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe are working in full cooperation with the emergency services and relevant health and safety officials as part of a full and thorough investigation. The construction site is currently closed and will remain closed until all appropriate investigations are completed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Morgan Sindall, which ranked second in last year\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/financial\/cn100-2024-turnover-up-profit-down-as-inflation-bites-12-09-2024\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CN100 index<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the UK\u2019s biggest contractors, was delivering the project for rail pensions provider Railpen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cA construction worker sustained fatal injuries during the incident and, while emergency services attended the scene and provided medical care, sadly the individual could not be saved,\u201d Railpen said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe extend our heartfelt condolences to family, friends and colleagues, and support is being provided to all those affected.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe have been working closely with the relevant authorities and our partners to respond to this incident.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe construction site will remain closed until further notice.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">East Anglian Air Ambulance confirmed it had attended the scene to \u201cprovide enhanced pre-hospital care\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Health and Safety Executive, which inspects safety and investigates incidents on construction sites, has not responded to a request for comment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Work started on the mixed-use scheme, which includes homes, offices, shops and a park, in January.
