Bouygues UK has secured the main construction contract for the University of Exeter\u2019s West Park student accommodation scheme, after the project reached financial close.<\/p>\n
The scheme will deliver six new accommodation blocks and refurbish an existing block at the university\u2019s Streatham campus, creating space for 1,849 students.<\/p>\n
Bouygues UK was appointed by infrastructure provider UPP as the lead contractor, \u00a0The client is the University of Exeter.<\/p>\n
The design is being led by Willmore Iles Architects and Passivhaus specialist Architype.<\/p>\n
UPP is financing the project.<\/p>\n
Construction is due to complete over a three-year period, Bouygues UK said in a statement this morning (2 September).<\/p>\n
Site preparation work has already begun, said data intelligence firm Glenigan, which has named Glamorgan-based mechanical and electrical specialist F P Hurley & Sons Ltd as one of the subcontractors.<\/p>\n
Phased occupancy of the new buildings will begin in September 2027 and full completion is expected in 2028, according to Bouygues UK.<\/p>\n
The development will be built to Passivhaus standards for energy efficiency and will be accredited under the WELL Community Standard.<\/p>\n
Bouygues UK said it would deliver the project using methods that support low energy use and prioritise occupant comfort.<\/p>\n
Chair and chief executive Philippe Bernard said the firm was \u201ccommitted to delivering exemplary projects that meet the highest standards of energy efficiency and resident wellbeing\u201d.<\/p>\n
