{"id":532058,"date":"2025-11-03T17:38:58","date_gmt":"2025-11-03T17:38:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/?p=532058"},"modified":"2025-11-04T09:24:47","modified_gmt":"2025-11-04T09:24:47","slug":"sisk-completes-farrans-acquisition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/financial\/ma\/sisk-completes-farrans-acquisition-03-11-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Sisk completes Farrans acquisition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Contractor John Sisk and Son has completed its acquisition of Farrans Construction in a move that could push its turnover beyond \u00a31bn.<\/p>\n<p>Sisk, the 45<sup>th<\/sup> biggest contractor in the UK and the biggest contractor in Ireland, \u201chas completed all legal and regulatory requirement[s]\u201d for the acquisition, it said in a statement on Monday (3 November).<\/p>\n<p>It initially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/financial\/sisk-agrees-deal-to-buy-farrans-01-09-2025\/\">announced the acquisition from building materials provider CRH<\/a> in September, but still needed ratification by Ireland\u2019s Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPS).<\/p>\n<p>In a statement published on 16 September, the CCPS ruled the acquisition would not \u201csubstantially lessen competition in any market for goods or services&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The acquisition may be put into effect,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p><em>Construction News <\/em>asked Sisk what other measures it had taken to meet the legal and regulatory requirements since that statement was published, but had not received a reply by the time of publication.<\/p>\n<p>In September, Sisk&#8217;s chief executive Paul Brown said the acquisition represented &#8220;an excellent opportunity for Sisk to broaden its sectoral reach across the UK and Ireland\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Farrans&#8217;] strong reputation and track record in delivering complex infrastructure projects aligns well with our strategic growth ambitions,\u201d he added at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Brown was confirmed as a director of Farrans on 31 October, according to a Companies House filing posted on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Owen Sisk, the current managing director of data centres at John Sisk who is also from the fifth generation of the Sisk family, was also named as a person with significant control of Farrans on Companies House.<\/p>\n<p>Marcus Carne, Sisk\u2019s chief commercial officer, was made a director at Farrans, and\u00a0 Sisk\u2019s company secretary and chief legal officer Maura Toles was appointed as secretary of the firm.<\/p>\n<p>Sisk and Farrans have not disclosed the financial terms of the deal.<\/p>\n<p>Farrans will continue to trade under its own brand as part of the deal.<\/p>\n<p>Together, the two firms could have a revenue of more than \u00a31bn, after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/financial\/sisk-returns-to-profit-as-revenue-surges-past-600m-12-09-2025\/\">Sisk tabled a turnover of \u00a3624.9m,<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/financial\/farrans-profit-slumps-in-final-accounts-before-sisk-acquisition-30-09-2025\/\">Farrans&#8217; turnover came in at \u00a3382.4m<\/a>, both in the year to 31 December 2024. That would make them the combined company the UK\u2019s 23<sup>rd<\/sup> biggest contractor, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/sections\/long-reads\/cn100-2025-cultivated-growth-25-09-2025\/\">the latest edition of the CN100<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sisk and Farrans could also have more than 1,400 employees, accounts suggest \u2013 with Farrans employing an average of 655 staff in 2024, and Sisk employing an average of 767 workers in the same year.<\/p>\n<p>Experts told <em>Construction News\u00a0<\/em>in September that the acquisition <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/financial\/ma\/why-does-sisk-want-to-buy-farrans-05-09-2025\/\">suggested the construction mergers and acquisitions (M&amp;A) market<\/a>\u00a0was hotting up.<\/p>\n<p>By acquiring Farrans, Sisk \u201csignificantly boosts its exposure to the aviation and utilities sectors\u201d, Dan Coppel, a London-based partner at multinational law firm Faegre Drinker, said.<\/p>\n<p><em>CN\u00a0<\/em>approached John Sisk for comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Contractor John Sisk and Son has completed its acquisition of Farrans Construction in a move that could push its turnover beyond \u00a31bn.
