Turnover for the top 10 combined barely grew, rising from \u00a3958.4m to \u00a3966m. But despite a 64 per cent profit drop \u2013 down from \u00a356.4m to \u00a320.4m \u2013 the median pre-tax margin grew from 3.2 per cent to 4 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Erith retained the top spot for the third year running. The London-based firm posted turnover of \u00a3243.2m \u2013 its fourth successive revenue rise. Profit rose by half to \u00a39m, even after Erith paid its \u00a317.6m Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) fine \u2013 two and a half years earlier than agreed \u2013 for its role in the demolition sector\u2019s cover bidding scandal.<\/p>\n<p>There was no movement in the top half of the table, with the five leading contractors holding on to their positions.<\/p>\n<p>John F Hunt again took second place with turnover rising from \u00a3157.1m to \u00a3179m, although its profit fell by 17 per cent to \u00a37.9m.<\/p>\n<p>Third-placed Keltbray\u2019s demolition turnover dropped by almost a quarter, from \u00a3137.5m to \u00a3106.2m. It was the only firm in the top five to see a decline in revenue and suffered the largest pre-tax loss of the top 10, with a \u00a31.2m deficit in last year\u2019s index deepening to \u00a313.6m.<\/p>\n<p>Keltbray\u2019s latest accounts included the impact of its \u00a318m CMA bid-rigging penalty. Last December, the contractor was ordered to pay up after its appeal against the original \u00a316m fine \u2013 issued in 2023 \u2013 failed on two out of three counts.<\/p>\n<p>Group finance director Scott Bennett says the business remains \u201coptimistic\u201d about the future, hailing Keltbray\u2019s \u201crobust pipeline and disciplined project selection\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>McGee again took fourth place despite suffering a 57 per cent drop in profit from \u00a312.4m to \u00a35.3m. The \u00a3151.4m-turnover firm said it had been hit by client-related delays and \u201cplanning setbacks\u201d. However, it experienced the largest rise in revenue of the top 10, with turnover increasing by \u00a329.6m.<\/p>\n<p>Brown and Mason rose one place to eighth and generated the biggest percentage rise (446 per cent) in profit, from \u00a3520,000 to \u00a32.8m.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest dip in turnover (28 per cent) was suffered by DSM Demolition, which dropped two places to 10th, with revenue falling from \u00a351.5m to \u00a337m.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, ninth-placed MGL Demolition recorded the healthiest margin, 9.7 per<br \/>\ncent, as its profit more than doubled from \u00a31.7m to \u00a34.3m.<\/p>\n<p>According to the National Federation of Demolition Contractors (NFDC), the sector<br \/>\nhas been hit by a continuing rise in costs.<\/p>\n<div class=\"factfile\">\n<h3>The top overall revenue growth among the UK\u2019s leading demolition contractors, the significant drop in pre-tax profits reflects the mounting pressures our industry continues to face,\u201d a spokesperson for the industry body says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRising operational costs, tighter margins, and the increasing demands of regulatory compliance and sustainability expectations have all played a part.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The spokesperson adds: \u201cLooking ahead to 2026, we anticipate continued demand driven by urban regeneration, infrastructure renewal, and the push for circular economy
