{"id":533982,"date":"2025-12-03T12:45:16","date_gmt":"2025-12-03T12:45:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/?p=533982"},"modified":"2025-12-03T11:31:15","modified_gmt":"2025-12-03T11:31:15","slug":"facade-firm-maintains-momentum-despite-2m-write-off-from-isg-collapse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/contractors\/isg\/facade-firm-maintains-momentum-despite-2m-write-off-from-isg-collapse-03-12-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Facade firm maintains \u2018momentum\u2019 despite \u00a32m write-off from ISG collapse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Buckinghamshire-based envelope contractor has pushed through a \u00a32m hit from ISG\u2019s collapse to \u201csustain operational momentum\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Middlesex Facades said in its latest annual accounts that it had to write off \u00a32m <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/financial\/administrations\/isg-uk-subsidiaries-apply-for-administration-19-09-2024\/\">following ISG\u2019s collapse last September<\/a>, but that it secured contracts with new clients on ISG sites to see it through.<\/p>\n<p>The \u00a326.7m-turnover subcontractor\u2019s \u201cproactive approach\u201d allowed it to maintain its project pipeline and \u201csustain operational momentum\u201d, the firm\u2019s managing director Ryan McCullagh said in accounts filed with Companies House today (3 December).<\/p>\n<p>The subcontractor provides facades, cladding and roofing solutions to tier one firms such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/contractors\/galliford-try\/\">Galliford Try<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/contractors\/kier\/\">Kier<\/a> in London and the south east of England, mainly on commercial, residential and data centre projects.<\/p>\n<p>In the year to 31 March 2025, the firm\u2019s pre-tax profit fell from \u00a32.6m to \u00a3620,000 after ISG\u2019s collapse forced it to carry out a \u201cbad debt write-off\u201d of \u00a32m, McCullagh said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[But] the company demonstrated resilience by securing direct contracts with clients from former ISG sites,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Turnover at the firm increased from \u00a321.5m to \u00a326.7m, though cash at hand fell from \u00a32m to \u00a3948,000.<\/p>\n<p>McCullagh also said the demise of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/contractors\/isg\/\">ISG<\/a> had \u201chighlighted the importance of credit risk management\u201d in the construction sector, leading his firm to \u201cenhance its due diligence procedures and credit terms for new clients to reduce exposure to bad debts\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>During the year, Middlesex Facades benefitted from an expanding portfolio of larger contracts and a solid pipeline, he added, as it focused on driving growth in the commercial and residential sectors.<\/p>\n<p>It also continued to \u201cexplore opportunities\u201d in the modular construction and eco-friendly building sectors, McCullagh said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a32.2bn-turnover ISG was the sixth-biggest contractor in the UK when it went under.<\/p>\n<p>The collapse hit subcontractors, government clients and projects up and down the country, as clients scrambled to replace the main contractor on jobs and minimise supply chain exposure.<\/p>\n<p>ISG\u2019s administrators at EY estimated last year that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/sections\/long-reads\/features\/shattered-trust-one-year-on-from-isgs-collapse-16-09-2025\/\">the tier one contractor owed its unsecured creditors \u2013 including the supply chain<\/a> \u2013 \u00a3885m when it went under.<\/p>\n<p>Two firms \u2013 Vitrine Systems and Seventynine Lighting \u2013<a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/financial\/administrations\/lighting-subcontractor-goes-under-administrators-blame-isg-collapse-25-10-2024\/\">\u00a0directly blamed ISG<\/a>\u00a0for their demise, with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/financial\/administrations\/ex-subbie-lost-3m-when-isg-kicked-off-job-in-spring-2024-22-12-2024\/\">Vitrine taking a \u00a33m hit<\/a>\u00a0when ISG was kicked off a major job.<\/p>\n<p>Other contractors impacted by ISG\u2019s collapse included building services firm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/financial\/isg-collapse-hits-building-services-firm-for-4m-02-10-2025\/\">Ivegate Ltd<\/a>, which reported a \u00a33.8m dent from ISG\u2019s collapse. Mechanical and electrical specialist Hensall Mechanical Services revealed that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/contractors\/isg\/isg-collapse-causes-significant-setback-for-me-contractor-12-08-2025\/\">ISG\u2019s collapse forced it into a \u201csubstantial gross\u00a0write-off\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>ISG\u2019s collapse also pushed joinery and fit-out firm\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/contractors\/isg\/isg-demise-prompts-strategic-rethink-at-joinery-firm-21-05-2025\/\">Taylor Made Joinery Interiors into a strategic rethink<\/a>, it said in May.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Buckinghamshire-based envelope contractor has pushed through a \u00a32m hit from ISG\u2019s collapse to \u201csustain operational momentum\u201d.
