\nDerbyshire-based plant hire business Leedale called in administrators in August<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The company had been founded in 1989 by Lee Walkup and continued to operate as a family business leasing diggers, tip trucks, grab trucks, cranes, crushers and road sweepers.<\/p>\n

Four months earlier it had been ordered by a tribunal<\/a> to pay former director Abigail Bullock \u00a38,724 over a failure to pay her notice money.<\/p>\n

8. Subcontractor collapse delays completion of \u00a3100m station<\/a><\/h3>\n

\"\"
\nIn November, Network Rail admitted that the \u00a3100m Cambridge South railway station being built by Murphy would take an extra six months to deliver after a key subcontractor collapsed.<\/p>\n

The infrastructure body apologised for \u201canother delay\u201d in the construction of the station<\/a>, which it said would be ready by June 2026.<\/p>\n

The client did not name the subcontractor that went under.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

7. Contractor loses cracked concrete court claim<\/a><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Cambridgeshire-based MJS Projects (March) Ltd took designers RPS Consulting Services Ltd to the Technology and Construction Court for alleged negligence and breach of contract.<\/p>\n

It alleged that concrete surrounding drains in the design of a container park near Felixstowe Port was suffering from deterioration and damage four months after completion.<\/p>\n

The case focused on whether the deterioration and damage was caused by RPS\u2019s design, the manner in which the drains were constructed, or both.<\/p>\n

A judge dismissed the claim<\/a> in April.<\/p>\n

\n

6. Balfour Beatty removes Danny Sullivan from contracts<\/a><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Danny Sullivan Group denied deliberate wrongdoing after Balfour Beatty terminated all its agreements with the labour supply firm in July over the misclassification of HS2 workers\u2019 employment status.<\/p>\n

The contractor said that an independent investigation found that the labour supplier had misinformed it \u201cabout the provision of Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) workers instead of PAYE employees, in breach of their agreements\u201d.<\/p>\n

Danny Sullivan Group said the review it commissioned found no \u201cevidence of deliberate wrongdoing involving any employees of our business\u201d.<\/p>\n

It said it was putting \u201csignificant\u201d investment into \u201cenhancements and transformation of the company\u2019s processes, technology and culture\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

5. Major independent timber supplier on brink of collapse<\/a><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

News that National Timber Group England and its holding parent, National Timber Group Midco had both filed a notice of intention to go into administration was widely read in November<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Sheffield-registered company employed more than 1,000 people and operated under brands including Arnold Laver, National Timber Systems, SV Timber and NORclad.<\/p>\n

It went into administration later that month, when insolvency specialists Alvarez & Marsal said they were hopeful of finding a buyer for the business<\/a>.<\/p>\n

4. Everton stadium cladders\u2019 supply chain to lose 99.5% of money owed<\/a><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

In April, administrators for Alucraft Systems revealed that its supply chain would get back up to half a penny in the pound at most.<\/a><\/p>\n

The company had been in the middle of installing cladding at Laing O\u2019Rourke\u2019s Everton Stadium (pictured) when it went under in March 2024, making 40 workers redundant.<\/p>\n

PwC said Alucraft\u2019s trade creditors were likely to receive at most \u00a3139,000 of the \u00a327.8m they were owed.<\/p>\n

The Staffordshire-based firm\u2019s parent company, the Clarison Group, had gone into liquidation in July 2024, hitting construction giant ISG for \u00a313.9m.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

3. \u00a345m Yorkshire bypass contract awarded<\/a><\/h3>\n

Plan of Howden relief road<\/p><\/div>\n

The announcement that Sheffield-based contractor Aureos had been awarded a \u00a345m construction contract for a major relief road on the northern edge of Howden by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council saw readers flock to CN<\/em> in June.<\/p>\n

The project will deliver a new link road between the A614 Thorpe Road and Station Road (B1228), including four new roundabouts on land currently used for farming.<\/p>\n

Works were due to begin in early July and were scheduled to take two years.<\/p>\n

2. Six contractors fined more than \u00a3400,000 in crackdown on illegal workers<\/a><\/h3>\n

The second most popular story of 2025 saw CN<\/em> name the contractors that had been fined in the first quarter of the year for employing people with no right to work in the UK.<\/p>\n

One of the largest fines, \u00a3120,000, was issued to Salford-based R&F Reinforcement and Construction.<\/p>\n

The Home Office said it had encountered illegal workers employed by R&F at work on a John Sisk site. Sisk told CN <\/em>that the subcontractor had since been removed from all of its projects.<\/p>\n

1. Millions paid to Henry family before collapse, administrators claim<\/a><\/p>\n

The most read news story on CN<\/em> in 2025 saw the revelation that administrators for Henry Construction Projects had lodged proceedings at the High Court against both of its former directors, Mark Henry and John Noone, along with five of Henry\u2019s family members<\/a>, in a bid to recoup \u00a324.9m.<\/p>\n

The contractor\u2019s joint administrators alleged millions of pounds was paid out to directors\u2019 family members before the company went into administration in 2023.<\/p>\n

Three months later, CN\u00a0<\/em>reported that the former directors filed a defence stating that the payments were part of legitimate intercompany arrangements<\/a> rather than a last-minute cash grab, and refuted all allegations of wrongdoing.<\/p>\n
