A completion date of April this year was then targeted, before the latest delay.<\/p>\n<p>UK Highways A55 Ltd, which is ultimately owned by London-based investment firm Equitix, is responsible for maintaining the bridge. Spencer Bridge Engineering is the contractor on the project.<\/p>\n<p>The saga began in 2022 when the 176-metre bridge was shut after defects were found in the hangers linking the suspension chains and the road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The structure, which marks its 200th anniversary this month, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/supply-chain\/menai-suspension-bridge-closed-again-due-to-unsafe-bolts-06-10-2025\/\">closed again last October<\/a> after investigations found that bolts on beams under the bridge needed replacing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Skates said the phase two works will now restart next month.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cWhile we are all disappointed that the work could not be completed ahead of this significant milestone, safety and structural integrity must always remain paramount.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cAfter a critical crossbeam issue arose last year, the phase two works are now scheduled to recommence in February, with completion expected by spring 2027.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Construction News<\/em> understands that during the latest phase of works, the bridge will see four week-long periods when traffic management will be in place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Plaid Cymru leader and Ynys M\u00f4n Senedd member Rhun ap Iorwerth said it was \u201cunacceptable\u201d work fixing the bridge would take so long, the BBC reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cResidents have already endured years of delays and congestion, local businesses have suffered significant losses, and community groups hoping to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the bridge have been let down,\u201d Iorwerth added.<\/p>\n<p>When <em>Construction News<\/em> contacted Spencer Bridge Engineering, it directed enquiries to UK Highways A55.<\/p>\n<p>UK Highways A55 declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>Equitix declined to comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Repair work on Wales\u2019 iconic Menai Suspension Bridge has been delayed further with completion now expected for spring next year.
