Major projects (\u00a3100m or more) totalled \u00a3693m during the period, a 324 per cent rise against the preceding three months to stand up on the previous year where no major projects commenced. Underlying work (less than \u00a3100m in value) starting on-site rose 16 per cent against the preceding three months on a seasonally adjusted (SA) basis and rose\u00a0 one per cent compared with a year ago to total \u00a31.05bn.<\/p>\n<p>Adding up to \u00a31.47bn, contract awards in Yorkshire &amp; the Humber increased 58 per cent against the preceding three months to stand 22 per cent lower than a year ago. Major projects totalled \u00a3285m, up against the preceding three months where no major projects were present but down 12 per cent against the previous year.\u00a0 Underlying main contract awards increased 14 per cent (SA) against the preceding three months but stood 24 per cent down on the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>Detailed planning approvals totalled \u00a31.56bn in Yorkshire &amp; the Humber, 22 per cent higher than the preceding three months to stand 47 per cent lower than last year. Totalling \u00a3190m, major projects declined 55 per cent compared with the previous three months and declined 87 per cent against last year\u2019s figures. Underlying approvals rose 37 per cent (SA) against the preceding three months to stand 11 per cent down compared with last year\u2019s levels to total \u00a31.37bn.<\/p>\n<h3>Sector analysis: project starts<\/h3>\n<p>Social housing was the most active sector, accounting for 33 per cent of work starting on-site, the value rose 490 per cent compared with the previous year to total \u00a3557m. Private Housing at \u00a3523m fared poorly, declining 13 per cent against the previous year to account for 31 per cent of the total value, the second most active sector in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Totalling \u00a3109m, hotel &amp; leisure performed well, having increased 391 per cent from a year ago to account for six per cent of starts in the region. Approvals totalled \u00a3500m in the sector, the sector experienced a 52 per cent decline against the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, health accounted for the second largest share of approvals in the region (19 per cent), with the value of approvals totalling \u00a3296m during the period, the increase 302 per cent against the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>Offices at \u00a3117m experienced the sharpest growth of any sector, rising 475 per cent against the previous year to account for 7 per cent of the total value.<\/p>\n<h3>Value of project approvals in the Yorkshire &amp;
