Underlying project-starts (less than \u00a3100m in value) increased 28 per cent against the preceding three months on a seasonally adjusted (SA) and stood 18 per cent below the previous year. Major projects (\u00a3100m or more) totalled \u00a3150m during the period, down 80 per cent on the preceding three months and 93 per cent lower against the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>Main contract awards in Scotland added up to \u00a31.19bn, 49 per cent lower compared with the preceding three months to stand 65 per cent down on a year ago. Underlying contract awards declined 19 per cent against the preceding three months (SA) and fell 33 per cent against the previous year. No major contract awards were present during the period, down on the preceding three months and previous year.<\/p>\n<p>Adding up to \u00a32.66bn, detailed planning approvals in Scotland increased 5 per cent against the preceding three months to stand 33 per cent down against the previous year. Major approvals declined 28 per cent against the preceding three months and declined 60 per cent against the previous year to total \u00a3899m. Underlying project approvals increased 20 per cent (SA) against the preceding three months to stand 4 per cent up on a year ago totalling \u00a31.76bn.<\/p>\n<h3>Sector analysis: project starts<\/h3>\n<p>Private Housing was the most active sector in Scotland, accounting for 33 per cent of the total value. Private Housing starts totalled \u00a3450m and experienced an 11 per cent decline. Social housing accounted for the joint-second highest share of sector starts (11 per cent), having experienced a 71 per cent decline against the previous year to total \u00a3143m.<\/p>\n<p>Industrial also totalled \u00a3143m, with the sector having increased 44 per cent against the previous year to account for 11 per cent of the total value. Private Housing accounted for the third-largest share of sector approvals (18 per cent), with the sector also experiencing a poor period.
