More positively, detailed planning approvals grew quarter-on-quarter and year-on-year, providing a boost to the development pipeline.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Wales overview<\/h3>\n<p>Totalling \u00a3358m work starting on-site in Wales declined 83 per cent against the preceding three months to stand 65 cent down on the previous year. No major projects (\u00a3100m or more) were present, a decline against the preceding three months and previous year. Underlying project starts increased 19 per cent against the preceding three months (SA), to stand 44 per cent down on the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>Main contract awards in Wales declined 38 per cent against the preceding three months and declined 31 per cent against the previous year to total \u00a3331m. No major projects were present, a decline against the preceding three months and previous year. Underlying contract awards experienced a weak performance, having declined 37 per cent (SA) against the preceding three months. The value declined 10 per cent against the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>Adding up to \u00a35.45bn, detailed planning approvals in Wales increased 57 per cent against the preceding three months and increased 146 per cent against the previous year. Major approvals, at \u00a35.1bn, jumped 70 per cent against the preceding three months to stand almost 237 per cent higher than last year.\u00a0 Underlying approvals increased 37 per cent against the preceding three months but declined by 51% against the previous year to total \u00a3346m.<\/p>\n<h3>Sector analysis: project starts<\/h3>\n<p>Education construction-starts totalled \u00a388m and accounted for the largest share of sector starts (25 per cent).
