Structures specialist Kilnbridge has recorded its \u201cbest year\u201d since its transition to an employee-owned trust (EOT), according to its founder and chairman Dermot McDermott.<\/p>\n

In accounts for the year to 30 June 2025, released this morning (18 February), the London-based firm announced a \u201csubstantial\u201d 81 per cent increase in pre-tax profit from \u00a33.7m to \u00a36.7m.<\/p>\n

This was generated from turnover of \u00a3129.1m \u2013 a 50 per cent rise on the previous year\u2019s \u00a385.9m<\/a> as work began on previously stalled schemes.<\/p>\n

The improved bottom line helped the firm\u2019s profit margin broaden from 4.3 per cent to 5.2 per cent.<\/p>\n

In addition, McDermott said the order book in the latest accounts had reached a new record of \u00a3300m, up from an all-time high of \u00a3200m the previous year.<\/p>\n

\u201cKilnbridge achieved a significant increase in profitability, marking the best year on record for the group since transitioning to an employee-owned group [in March 2021],\u201d he said in the annual report accompanying the accounts.<\/p>\n

In view of this improved performance, he added, \u201c\u00a3349,000 was distributed to all eligible employees in November 2025\u201d.<\/p>\n

Chief executive Owen Dannatt said that repeat customers accounted for 80 per cent of Kilnbridge\u2019s turnover in the latest financial year.<\/p>\n

Completed projects in the past year included Beaulieu Park Station in Essex, Sadler\u2019s Wells East music and cultural centre in London\u2019s Olympic Park, and HS2\u2019s Colne Valley Viaduct<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cash at bank rose from \u00a318.7m to \u00a329.3m and Kilnbridge continued to reduce its debt exposure as long-term liabilities, mainly obligations under finance leases, decreased from \u00a33.2m to \u00a32m.<\/p>\n

Dannatt said this reduction reflected a \u201cdisciplined approach to managing financial commitments\u201d at the firm, which was ranked 9th<\/sup> in last year\u2019s CN Specialists Index for concrete contractors<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Turnover and profit had fluctuated since Kilnbridge became an EOT in March 2021. It made a \u00a32m pre-tax profit from turnover of \u00a397.3m in 2022, followed by \u00a33.8m from \u00a3120.1m in 2023 and then 2024\u2019s downturn.<\/p>\n

Kilnbridge employed a monthly average of 371 staff in its latest financial year, compared with 347 the year before.<\/p>\n

This resulted in a higher annual wage bill of \u00a326.4m compared with \u00a321.5m in the previous accounts.<\/p>\n

The latest accounts and annual report covered the first full year overseen by Kilnbridge\u2019s new top-level team.<\/p>\n

McDermott stepped back from the chief executive role in May 2024, 33 years after founding the company.<\/p>\n

He was replaced by Dannatt, former chief operating officer at Shard developer Sellar.<\/p>\n

Also in May 2024, Tom Sullivan was appointed as chief operating officer and executive board director, responsible for managing risk and all internal operations.<\/p>\n

Maninder Sandher joined Kilnbridge as its first chief financial officer last April, following finance director Tim Larkin\u2019s retirement.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead, Dannatt said his firm is \u201cwell-positioned to benefit from the anticipated increase in UK infrastructure investment over the coming years\u201d.<\/p>\n

He cited ongoing \u201cflagship projects\u201d such as a new nine-storey office at Lansdowne House, Berkeley Square in Mayfair; the One North Quay life sciences job in Canary Wharf (pictured); and \u201cvarious projects across HS2, alongside industry recognition and customer award wins\u201d.<\/p>\n
