A worker has died following an incident at a housing development in Norwich.<\/p>\n
The East of England Ambulance Service (EEAS) said an air ambulance was called to the scene at Hawthorn Drive in Sprowston at 10.50am on Tuesday (17 February) over reports a person had been injured.<\/p>\n
But the man, who has not been named, died at the scene, the EEAS added.<\/p>\n
Developer Tilia Homes, which is constructing 251 homes at the site, has paused operations.<\/p>\n
\u201cA serious incident occurred at our Furlong Heath development in Sprowston resulting in the tragic death of one of our agency general operatives,\u201d a spokesman for Tilia Homes said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe site is now closed, pending a thorough investigation by the relevant authorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur thoughts and deepest condolences are with the individual\u2019s family, friends and colleagues at this incredibly difficult time. We would like to thank the emergency services for their swift response and professionalism in attending the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tilia Homes said its \u201cimmediate focus\u201d is on the wellbeing of everyone working at the site.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe safety and welfare of those who work with us is our highest priority, and we will be providing support to our employees, subcontractors and partners at the development,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis includes access to appropriate welfare and counselling services to ensure that those impacted receive the care and assistance they need.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) told Construction News<\/em> it is aware of the incident and is making enquires.<\/p>\n EEAS told CN<\/em> it was first to arrive at the site following the incident.<\/p>\n \u201cAn ambulance, an ambulance officer vehicle, a rapid response vehicle and the East Anglian Air Ambulance were sent to the scene,\u201d a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n \u201cSadly, despite the best efforts of all involved, the patient died at the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n Norfolk Constabulary said it was called by EEAS at 11.10am to reports of an industrial incident.<\/p>\n \u201cA man was sadly declared dead at the scene,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n \u201cOfficers are investigating alongside colleagues from the HSE.<\/p>\n \u201cThe man\u2019s next of kin have been informed.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" A worker has died following an incident at a housing development in Norwich.
